#30DaysWild Day 7 – Foxes and cubs

7 June 2016

Growing along roadside verges of a busy road I travel, a small bright orange flower would always catch my eye through the summer months. A couple of years ago, curiosity as to its ID eventually had me searching it out. For anyone else curious, let me introduce you to Foxes and cubs (also known as… Read More #30DaysWild Day 7 – Foxes and cubs

Query for wildflower growers/experts

14 May 2013

What’s with the pink flowering native primroses? Spotted, this morning, alongside deep cerise pink drumstick primulas, I initially wondered if I was seeing a new primula species. A fun and exciting thought for a while! Being realistic, I suspected this wasn’t likely so set about the world of Google searches. I asked on twitter too.… Read More Query for wildflower growers/experts

Wildflower Wednesday: my April garden

25 April 2013

It was almost midnight last night (here in Scotland) when I uploading the photos to join others celebrating wildflowers. So I missed the boat for Wednesday perhaps, but I did stop my garden potting shed re-org when there was enough light to wander round my garden to see if I actually had any wildflowers in… Read More Wildflower Wednesday: my April garden

GARDENWATCH

I’d encourage everyone to gardenwatch, now more than ever. You just never know what you might see when you look more closely. I’d guess you’d be in for quite a few surprises, just as I have. A good start is a dish of fresh water for thirsty hedgehogs and birds and any kind of bird feeder. A warning here – one will lead to another. Our gardens really can be mini nature reserves which is great for us to enjoy and seriously helps struggling wildlife.

There are three favourite locations to gardenwatch in my garden, all at different times of the day. Breakfast, through a window with a notebook recording activity at the feeders. Lunchtime, on a bench by the pond watching what is attracted there – lots. Late evening is the last, live watching night garden activity through four IR cameras – addictive!
