These are sweet looking little squirrels. We don't have this type of squirrel around here. Great shots.

Lovely – I was hoping to spot a red squirrel when we went to Scotland in march and also when we went to Cumbria last year but no joy.
The nearest I've got to wild reds is in Formby Lancashire where they have a protected area for them.
Great photos. I especially like the middle one where its head has disappeared.

I went to Formby Point last week where the reds almost got wiped out with pox.
Good news is I saw around 8.
They are great to see.

There were two red squirrel kits this day and they were so fast darting in every direction. Thanks for for your kind comments on my photo captures. My hope is that one day they come closer and stay still longer to get better photos.
It really is a shame that this native species is struggling. Fingers crossed conservation methods work in time to save it 😀

Hi there. Great photos. I live in Toronto, Canada, and earlier this year, my wife, Jean, and I were in Ireland where we came upon the rarely seen Red Squirrel. To us, they actually look somewhat like our American Red squirrels, but boy, do they have long ears! We were shocked to learn that U.K. and Irish Red squirrels are contracting the pox virus from Grey squirrels, and dying. We have far to many Grey squirrels here at our feeders. But up north near Algonquin Park we have seen a few Red squirrels. We feel very lucky to have seen two Red squirrels in Ireland.
