Brief flutter & leg stretch

31 July 2016

July seems to have run away all by itself and has ended with a brief game of garden hide and seek. The game took place on July 27th and players were the gardener tidying the potting shed, the first small tortoiseshell butterfly garden sighting for 2016 and the tadpoles having an extended holiday in the… Read More Brief flutter & leg stretch

#30DaysWild Day 27 – Tadpole update

27 June 2016

No back legs are visible on the frog tadpoles tonight. This was an optimistic check-in as they are changing their swimming behaviour. They are now seen very close to the bottom, stationary a lot of the time but when they move it is fast, almost like they are running along. The pond water is currently… Read More #30DaysWild Day 27 – Tadpole update

#30DaysWild Day 6 – Tadpoles and Damselflies

6 June 2016

Okay, so I haven’t got a crystal ball but if I did and it predicted so much wildlife in one small garden I would never have believed it anyway. So what are we looking at today? Well, curiosity and failed attempts at taking clear photos of our wildlife pond tadpoles finally got the better of… Read More #30DaysWild Day 6 – Tadpoles and Damselflies

A great weekend of walks and wildlife

3 May 2016

It’s fair to say last weekend was a busy one in and out of the garden for both myself and wildlife. Not on the radar, at all, was the very busy Coal tit speedily nest building in my camera nest box on Sunday! To say I’m absolutely thrilled is an understatement. What a delightful little… Read More A great weekend of walks and wildlife

GARDENWATCH

I’d encourage everyone to gardenwatch, now more than ever. You just never know what you might see when you look more closely. I’d guess you’d be in for quite a few surprises, just as I have. A good start is a dish of fresh water for thirsty hedgehogs and birds and any kind of bird feeder. A warning here – one will lead to another. Our gardens really can be mini nature reserves which is great for us to enjoy and seriously helps struggling wildlife.

There are three favourite locations to gardenwatch in my garden, all at different times of the day. Breakfast, through a window with a notebook recording activity at the feeders. Lunchtime, on a bench by the pond watching what is attracted there – lots. Late evening is the last, live watching night garden activity through four IR cameras – addictive!
