A great weekend of walks and wildlife

3 May 2016

It’s fair to say last weekend was a busy one in and out of the garden for both myself and wildlife. Not on the radar, at all, was the very busy Coal tit speedily nest building in my camera nest box on Sunday! To say I’m absolutely thrilled is an understatement. What a delightful little… Read More A great weekend of walks and wildlife

Osprey – the ultimate fisher

16 June 2013

During the Osprey season at the SWT Loch of the Lowes Reserve near Dunkeld (Scotland), as yet, I have never seen Ospreys fishing in front of the hides. They will do it on occasions and I can very easily imagine the delight on the faces of visitors that catch a glimpse of this sight. Perhaps… Read More Osprey – the ultimate fisher

Urgent Appeal: Osprey Satellite Tracking 2013

14 March 2013

Today, the blog from SWT Reserve Loch of the Lowes shared the great news that the satellite tracking project for Ospreys here in Scotland was continuing into 2013! As I have followed the story of the Ospreys here on my blog, I’d like to help promote their appeal. Although the news is great – the… Read More Urgent Appeal: Osprey Satellite Tracking 2013

Oh Blue… so many people are wishing a safe… Read More bye bye Blue44… we’ll still be watching you

Osprey returns for 20th time

25 March 2010

Just in case anyone missed this one in the news today… the UK’s oldest known breeding female Osprey has just returned to her nest in Scotland for the 20th consecutive year! Isn’t that just brilliant? I’d say well worth republishing some previous blog photos of her from last year in celebration. At an estimated 25… Read More Osprey returns for 20th time

GARDENWATCH

I’d encourage everyone to gardenwatch, now more than ever. You just never know what you might see when you look more closely. I’d guess you’d be in for quite a few surprises, just as I have. A good start is a dish of fresh water for thirsty hedgehogs and birds and any kind of bird feeder. A warning here – one will lead to another. Our gardens really can be mini nature reserves which is great for us to enjoy and seriously helps struggling wildlife.

There are three favourite locations to gardenwatch in my garden, all at different times of the day. Breakfast, through a window with a notebook recording activity at the feeders. Lunchtime, on a bench by the pond watching what is attracted there – lots. Late evening is the last, live watching night garden activity through four IR cameras – addictive!
